1. We changed the couch cover. (Yes, we have two: beige and red). The smell disappeared, and it is likely that it was caused by Gizmo.
2. Jeanne did not win the credit union scholarship. Instead, the winners were the "mow the grass," "pick up the poop," and "caricature" signs. Poop on them.
In the long run, Jeanne will be happier than those other winners, simply by virtue of the fact that she likes vegetables. I'll bet she outlives them by ten years, at least, and won't have to pose for any photo ops involving poop.
